YouthLEADS

YouthLEADS is a summer youth leadership program designed for Junior and Senior high school students. Students are asked to complete an application process that helps us to gain an understanding of their past community experiences and interests. Through a six session program in June, students have an opportunity to meet students from other schools, learn leadership traits and teambuilding activities, meet leaders in the community, and explore various community locations. The sessions are broken down as follows:

Orientation: Meet all students that are part of the YouthLEADS program. We will engage in teambuilding exercises and meet others.

Leadership: Meet leaders from local government and learn what you can do to get involved and make your voice heard.

Engagement: Learn about community service organizations such as the Midwest Food Bank, Community Health Care Clinic, and the Salvation Army.

Awareness: Gain awareness and understanding of economic, diversity, and other issues impacting McLean County.

Development: Interact with local business owners and discuss what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur.

Service: Graduate and focus on the future with an emphasis on sustainable community service.

Applications for the June 2012 YouthLEADS programs will be available on the website or Facebook page, McLean County YouthLEADS by February 2012.
