Teens in Prevention (TiPs)
Active teens in McLean County formed the Teens in Prevention Network (TiPs) of McLean County. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency first developed this idea and then shared their knowledge with McLean County teens. Since then, the teens have organized to share the message with others. The Teens in Prevention Network offers a formal 1-day training session to students. The teens learn how to keep a commitment and courage to live a drug and alcohol-free life. Each McLean County high school is offered an opportunity to send students to this training session and participate in the long-term community group. The McLean County Community COMPACT collaborates with many community members and agencies to make this a meaningful and educational program for teens.
The 2010 conference was held in November, and with 115 students from 8 Mclean County high schools and the Bloomington Area Career Center present, attendance was the highest we have ever had! The day-long conference addressed issues surrounding cultural awareness, self-expression, and ways to get involved in community service.
