Job
Readiness Training
Job
Readiness Skills Training began as a project with disadvantaged
youth working with Youth Impact, Inc., a partnering organization
of the McLean County Community Compact. The curriculum was
designed to allow youth to hear first-hand from employers
regarding the skills, mannerisms, and habits of a good employee.
Compact Council members provided the education for these individuals.
Topics
covered in Job Readiness Skills Training include: Customer
service training, professional/workplace dress, the need for
dependability/punctuality, and teamwork. Students were taught
ways to seek advancing positions by showing responsive and
responsibility in the workplace.
This
curriculum also has components allowing students to gain skills
in career assessment and career awareness showing students
ways to design a career plan for themselves. The curriculum
is used for groups of students dealing with multiple barriers
to their student success.
