Peaceful Schools Committee

The Peaceful Schools Committee is committed to fostering strong social and emotional learning standards, control and prevent anger issues, and diffuse conflict for our youth. This committee has helped to implement 2nd Step: A Violence Prevention programming for Pre-K and Kindergarten aged students in several McLean County schools. 2nd Step Curriculum teaches social and emotional standards for violence prevention. The program includes teacher-friendly curriculum, training for educators, and various parent-education components. The program is based on more than 15 years of classroom application and the most current academic, social, and emotional research. The Peaceful School Committee has continued support from the McLean County Community Compact board and staff in their efforts to reach school youth for violence prevention.

The COMPACT partners with the Extension Office on the following initiatives:

Community Swaps

Community Swaps are one of the innovative programs that the COMPACT Extension staff facilitates. This program allows participating citizens to "swap" communities and evaluate the other community. This allows citizens to see the community with new eyes. This allows citizens to see their own community through a different lens. The program also facilitates positive changes in the communities.

Strategic Planning

Strategic planning is another tool communities use to facilitate community and economic growth. The COMPACT Extension staff works with the community to develop and implement the plan. The process begins with visioning sessions involving the entire community. Priorities for development within the community are identified and small committees begin to evaluate the needs and assets the community has to offer. The committees devise goals, objectives, strategies, and action plans in order to pave the way for future growth.
