Employment
Within Business Diversity Grant
Recently
McLean County Community Compact has initiated a partnership
with Mackinaw Valley Special Education to encourage McLean
County businesses to diversify their workforces. The project
is the result of a grant from the Illinois Council on Developmental
Disabilities geared towards employment of individuals with
developmental disabilities. The goal of this project is to
establish a comprehensive community support system that focuses
on development of competitive employment opportunities for
individuals with developmental disabilities.
Some of the important information that McLean County Community
Compact shares during training events include the fact that
individuals with disabilities have proven to be dependable,
dedicated, hardworking and productive employees. Many businesses
report that the experience of working with people with disabilities
increases every employee's morale and productivity. Compact
appreciates the opportunity to introduce businesses to the
value that comes from diversifying and expanding their workforces
by hiring from the developmentally disabled community.
Through
the Employment Diversity Grant Project over 50 businesses
have been trained on the value of having a diverse workforce,
33 students and adults have been employed part or full time,
and 2 internships programs have been initiated.
